If you are waking up with stiffness or a sore back you need to know that there are several things you can do to fix the problem that wont interfere with your current sleeping schedule or routine and you wont have to buy any of those miracle cures you see on the television. I am going to give you three quick tips to help sleep with back pain.
Firstly you want to make sure that you have a quality pillow that is going to support your neck while you are laying down. You want to have your neck as straight as possible creating a perfectly aligned spine that is completely straight. Since on average we are supposed to be getting 8 hours of sleep you might want to take the extra time to make sure that our spine and neck are fully supported.
Secondly you need to establish a great sleeping posture. If you have or know someone who has been the physical therapy it is one of the first things that you are taught. The optimal way to sleep is on your side with your knees slightly bent upwards as if in the fetal position. A lot of people have commented that putting a pillow between the legs relieves some of the pressure from the lower back.
Finally and most often times overlooked is stretching. This may not seem like it is a very important tip but in retrospect this may be one of the most important things you can do to help with your lower back pain. Always always always stretch before you go to bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or even when you wake up in the morning take 2-3 minutes to do a few lower back stretches you will be surprised how much this can help.
