Why is it that some people are able to find ways to fall asleep a lot easier than other people? We all know people who lay down and are out within 5 -10 minutes. The first step is to find out why you can’t find ways to fall asleep fast. Do you have sleeping disorders? Do you have a lot of stress in your life that you can’t release at the end of the day? Do you have problems in your past that are keeping you from getting the rest you deserve? Hopefully one of these little tips will work for you.
1. Empty your mind. I know it is very challenging sometimes to clear your head. If you are having random thoughts running through your head do your best to force them out and lay there and relax. You made the conscious decision to end your day . So end it. Tell your mind it is time to go to sleep. When you reinforce your decision verbally your subconscious mind has no other choice than to believe you.
2. Get rid of all distractions in the bedroom. If you keep magazines or books by your night stand put them in another room. If you have a television in your room don’t watch it when you lay down. These two things keep your mind racing even though your body is ready to sleep.
3. This tip is a little far fetched but does seem to work. I like to pretend that I am sleeping. I don’t know how many times I have fallen asleep while I was “pretending” to fall asleep. It is worth a shot if you can’t fall asleep.
4. You can always try counting sheep. I know this has been around for ages but it is effective. I like to put a twist on it. In my head I imagine I am sitting in the woods and watching deer and squirrel move around like I am not even there. Don’t bring your imaginary rifle, that doesn’t help your sleep therapy.
5. This final tip is my favorite I simply do self hypnosis. I start with my feet and concentrate on them being relaxed, then move up my body mentally relaxing each part of my body until I feel fully relaxed.
